The Licensing Process

1.  Enroll as a student at Central Texas School of Real Estate

2.  Take the required courses, information about what specific courses you will need to take can be found at the TREC web site@   http://www.trec.state.tx.us/

   Listed below are the Texas Real Estate Commission’s (TREC) required number of classroom hours and required core courses list. (Please check the TREC web address for all appropriate forms and any additional information about real estate course work.)

 

210 classroom hours of real estate courses are required

specific core courses required are:

  • 60 hours in Principles of Real Estate  
  • 30 hours in Law of Agency
  • 30 hours in Law of Contracts

 

90 additional hours of other core courses are required. Other courses are:

    • Real Estate Appraisal
    • Real Estate Law
    • Real Estate Finance
    • Real Estate Marketing
    • Real Estate Mathematics
    • Real Estate Brokerage
    • Property Management
    • Real Estate Inspections
    • Related courses 6 semester hours from an accredited college or university

 

3.  Have your educational courses and transcripts evaluated by submitting the TREC Evaluation of Education Document (form) along with :

  • Copies of all your education transcripts and course certificates
  • A check or money order for $30.00                  

to the Texas Real Estate Commission, forms can be downloaded from the TREC web site@  www.trec.state.tx.us  http://www.trec.state.tx.us/

4.  Complete and submit the Salesperson Application License form along with a check or money order for $79.50 ($69.50 application fee and $10.00 recovery fund fee)

5.  Receive your Candidate Information Brochure (CIB) from TREC, and make an appointment to take the state exam.  Information about taking the state exam can be obtained from the TREC web site @ www.trec.state.tx.us  http://www.trec.state.tx.us/

6.  Take the exam!!

  • An introduction to the real estate profession.  Concentrates on real estate terminology & the real estate licensing act.

PRINCIPLES of REAL ESTATE 2-0112 

  • An introduction to the real estate profession. Highlights real estate math, construction & terminology.

PRINCIPLES of REAL ESTATE 3-0113 

  • An introduction to the real estate profession.  Focusing on the Real Estate Licensing Act and Vocabulary.

PRINCIPLES of REAL ESTATE 4-0114 

  • An introduction to the real estate profession, with emphasis on Real Estate Finance, Closings & Professionalism.

LAW of CONTRACTS 1200 

  • Get hands on experience with TREC forms.

LAW of AGENCY 1111 

  • Overview of fiduciary duty, employment law, DTPA, buyer representation & disclosure.

REAL ESTATE MATH 0611 

  • Overview of arithmetic, logic, math skills, and real estate applied situations.

REAL ESTATE LAW 0311 

  • An overview of laws affecting real estate in Texas.

REAL ESTATE APPRAISAL 0221 

  • Learn the appraisal process learn the terminology & case studies.  Course includes practical exercise in residential appraisal.

REAL ESTATE FINANCE 0411 

  • Learn about the monetary system, sources of loans & types of finance.

BROKERAGE 0721 

  • Planning & Organization.  Policy & Procedures.  Record Keeping & Training.

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT 0831 

  • Role of the landlord, contracts, leases, fair housing.

REAL ESTATE MARKETING 0522            

  • Negotiations, listings, ethics, strategies & techniques.

REAL ESTATE INSPECTIONS 1021 

  • Home inspection procedures, methods, risk management and use of property inspection reports.
